Best performance?

Best performance in this film? I would pick George Segal as Pete Gusenberg.

I was so glad to see Peter get his. He was a despicable low life and bully. Couldn't have happened to a better you know what.

Segal was great in his part, no question. I'm gonna go with Ralph Meeker's Bugs Moran, though. Partly because Meeker is one of the very few actors I've seen do justice to the part. There have been lots of great Al Capones, Frank Nittis, and Dutch Schultz's, but most of the Bugs Moran roles have been tepid to just plain awful (Harry Moragan's Bugs Moran made me wince).

Meeker also kind of looked like the real Bugs Moran, so that's a plus for me, too.

I thought they were all pretty good, but Jason Robards' boardroom scene - where he chewed everyone out and assigned Jack McGurn to hit Moran - was a memorable performance.

I loved them all tbh. Segal was a delight. A guy you loved to hate. Robards was a menacing Capone, Ralph Meeker was a perfect Bugs Moran, Mickey Reems as Rheinhold Schwimmer in a small part made you feel some pity for him, as he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, along with Bruce Dern. A really well done film, that has passed the test of time.
