class 40

A friend with good knowledge on trains informs me they wanted to use the same class 40, number 326 in the film but BR said no so they used 318 of the same class.

Hiya

The 'real' D326 was so accident prone BR probably dreaded another mishap. As well as the Great Train Robbery, it also crashed on one occasion whilst on 'up' midday scot duties killing 18 and injuring 33 - driver error; a 'second man' which was the replacement term for fireman was electrocuted; and on approach to Birmingham New Street Station it's brakes failed. Fortunately it was scrapped and cut up at Doncaster in 1984. The film Buster should have been cut up too.

That's a shame, it should have been preserved and put in a museum. Typical of this country to dispose of historical things.

The credits for Robert Powell as the Guard mistakenly credit him as the Deltic train guard !!
A Deltic has nothing to do with this film-can somebody omit Deltic from his credit please !
