WARNING - avoid The Horror Channel version

It's a daytime cut print. I wrote and complained - no reply.

In what way is it cut?

The most noticeable one is the cut to Colonel Breem when he was transfixed by the spaceship. In the full version you see his horribly disfigured face - in the TV version all you see it his body falling into the pit.

That's the problem with edited versions - some viewers may only get to see them and not realise there's a far better version available.

Another example is Halloween - Season of the Witch. Now that was really butchered. When I exchanged messages on here many fans had no idea.

reply

You should note cuts like that under "alternate versions" on the IMDb
(Yes, I know it should be "alternative versions", we've told them)

Good idea but not sure where the connecting link is from the original film. I can go direct to say Robocop alternate version by typing it direct in Google but cannot see where the link is on the actual film page.

What "connecting link"?

For Quatermass and the Pit (1967) as an example you just need to say that there is a TV version and then say what changes were made for the TV version. You shouldn't need to link it to anything else

Steve

reply

Ok I just meant a link you can click to go to the alternative version. For example although there is another version of Robocop I can't see how you can access it via IMDB

reply

The IMDb just records one version for each title, the version as it was first released to the public. Any alternative versions, director's cuts or anything else should just be noted in the "alternate version" section for that one title

Just watched the scene, and yes the Colonel's face is disfigured.

If we can save humanity, we become the caretakers of the world

Its even got a PG rating!

Its that man again!!

reply

So it's been cut to fit in the Horror channel's daytime showing schedules. Let's hope they don't get hold of Aliens otherwise it wouldn't last for more than 20 minutes.

What a horrible thing to do - destroy someone's work.

reply

I just saw it on the Horror Channel UK version. It looks intact, certainly the death of Col Green is.

reply

Well I sent them a mail so perhaps they're showing the adult version now in a later slot. However last time I saw it - it was only PG and the original was an 18. I know films get re-categorized but not by this extent.

Worst cut movies.... Repo man. Does "flip you melon farmer" even make sense?
Cheech and Chongs next movie.
DIAMONDS?
Oh really now. No space coke either. Im sure if they did the edit now the PC nazis would also cut out the "beaners" song. It being so offensive to beans.
