irony and anger.

looking at everything I can find on this film on the internet, interesting stuff.

Paul Jones was an atheist who had debated religion with famously Christian Cliff Richard,he later became a christian after attending a stadium rally.
In the film he plays a pop star who stars in a christian stadium rally.

The director seems to have a real chip on his shoulder.

His website and interview quotes show he is still upset about the BBC not showing THE WAR GAME and how this film was attacked by critics and dumped by the distributors.

If you have seen THE WAR GAME it is obvious that the BBC were not going to show it,people would have been very disturbed by seeing it.

Lovers of THE WAR GAME will say it was banned by the BBC but it was not banned just not shown.
The BBC must have paid Watkins what he was due for his work but it was a BBC production.

The film could be seen from the 1960s till the 1980s at meetings run by CND.
I saw it on the big screen in the early 1980s surrounded by starry eyed Stalinists and pacifists.(Corbyn please resign)
It has been on VHS and dvd for many years,so not banned.

As for Privilege it is an amazing, interesting film but not great.

If we take into account the awful acting by Jones and Shrimpton and the obvious plot points hammered home again and again I can see why the critics hated it.

Suggesting that the Church Of England would form an alliance with fascists and the poor reviews led to it being withdrawn? that is my impression from trying to find out what happened to this film.

The director suggests on his website that Kubrick stole a scene from this film for a scene in Clockwork Orange but he does not say which scene, anybody know.

I saw LONELY BOY a early 1960s documentary about Paul Anka (then a huge star)on tv a while ago (BBC obviously) and I can see that Watkins took a lot from that film.

Watkins also says on his website that everything shown in this film has happened in Britain since it was made, well not really we have not had a fascist takeover yet
