I only vaguely remember this movie, but I'm trying to remember a scene and find out the actor in it.
I recall that near the end they were talking to a TPC receptionist, and looked behind him to discover there was a cable connecting him to the wall, with the obvious conclusion that he was a robot.
Confirm: this was in the movie, right?

Yes, that was in the movie. The actor was Pat Harrington (probably best known as the building super named Schnieder on One Day at a Time.) According to IMDB his character was the president of TPC.

I thought I could see his face in my mind, but the name I was looking for was David Hedison, of "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" fame.

I had assumed that Pat Harrington "was" Schneider because that was the extent of my exposure to him until I saw this film, but now I realize it was the actor's talent I saw in that show and in this film.
