[Spolier, kinda] Actor playing TPC 'android'?

I only vaguely remember this movie, but I'm trying to remember a scene and find out the actor in it.

I recall that near the end they were talking to a TPC receptionist, and looked behind him to discover there was a cable connecting him to the wall, with the obvious conclusion that he was a robot.

Confirm: this was in the movie, right?

Question: what was the name of the character, and more importantly, who was the actor?

Thanks!

reply

Yes, that was in the movie. The actor was Pat Harrington (probably best known as the building super named Schnieder on One Day at a Time.) According to IMDB his character was the president of TPC.

Cool, thanks. I was listening to a podcast discussing experimental robots that can interact, including talking, gesturing, and showing some facial expressions. Some use the faces of celebrities; I realized a true geek could use this guy.

I thought I could see his face in my mind, but the name I was looking for was David Hedison, of "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" fame.

Compare www.imdb.com/media/rm1771608064/tt0072554 to www.imdb.com/media/rm2323879936/tt0057798 -- they actually do look somewhat similar, eh?

reply

Wow, that was Pat Harrington? I thought he looked vaguely familiar, but not that familiar!

reply

Yes, compare the spooky-suave Phone Company drone he played in 'Analyst' with the sloppy comic-macho Schneider from "One Day at a Time," and you can see that Harrington is a true character actor.

reply

Very true. The mark of an excellent character actor is the ability to disappear completely into the role. I had assumed that Pat Harrington "was" Schneider because that was the extent of my exposure to him until I saw this film, but now I realize it was the actor's talent I saw in that show and in this film.
