Question about tapes / DVDs

Can anyone tell me how to find out which version of that song (the "changes that keep going down" song, that was replaced on some versions) is on a tape or DVD, without asking the seller some confusing questions? (From what I've heard, the ORIGINAL song is on ALL DVDs, but I'm not sure.)

I bought the DVD and can tell you that Barry Mc Guire/Clear Light's original songs are on it - they released this one as such a bare-bones no-extras thing that they wouldn't have gone to the trouble of releasing alternate versions. The official VHS release of some several years ago, however, does substitute fake-60s rock, so stay away from it.

I'm assuming you're American - versions released in other countries could well have their own music rights issues I have no clue about.

So any given DVD would have the first song, not the second (not that I hated that one)? Thank you.

Any official DVD should have the original music - I could see an exception to 'any given' if someone recorded the older VHS release onto a disk and tried to fob it off, but can't honestly see that happening.

The DVD I have has both original songs - the acoustic guitar one about the 'changes that go round and round' and the full-on heavy rock 'She's ready to be free', both of which were deleted in the older VHS.

Music rights are a royal pain - took forever to clear things for an 'SCTV' DVD release (and some hurdles weren't cleared, like the use of Zeppelin), the 80s 'Crime Story' show rerelease had to leave out the original early 60s pop, and I'm sure 'WKRP' will never see the light of day again for all the music they used.

Likewise, the Laserdisc had alternate music in place of "Changes". A total waste!
