Tati deserves an Academy Award!

Although Tati doesn't need any awards to be one of the greatest of all time (director, comedian), it believe it would be a great idea for the (nowadays) overrated Academy to give a posthume award to Tati for his whole work.

Especially now, 40 years after Playtime, it truly shows what a genius he was. His work really stand the test of time, unlike so many other filmmakers who did receive an Oscar (Blake Edwards, Stanley Donen and many others).

Just realise that one member of the Academy's jury (or whatever that group who select the winners is called) is Roger Ebert - the famous reviewer who is a huge fan of Tati and his work.

Forza Tati !

Actually Tati received An Oscar for the film mon oncle. But you are still right, Tati should have an honorary award for the way he changed the whole industry.

reply

I seriously doubt this will happen. The academy usually don't give out lifetime achievement awards to foreign personnel.

reply

I thought both Kurosawa and Hitchcock received Honorary oscars, aren't they 'foreign'?

Hitchcock did most of his important work in America and became an American citizen, but Kurosawa was certainly foreign. But the Academy don`t give out lifetime awards posthumously and in any event they wouldn`t have ranked Tati that highly.Apart from Mon oncle he was too unconventional for them.

And they were both alive at the time. Which helps.

Well i can't compare them to Tati since I've not yet seen any of his films, but I think comparing Kurosawa and Hitcock in terms of winning awards, is slightly different, just because they're all foreign, since K+H are very highly reguarded the greatest of all time at what they do... It's like comparing Kubrick with... i dunno, Sam Mraovich or someone, although don't think I'm trying to critisize Tati (wow this is getting so confusing, but I'm sure someone understands me?)

He needs an Irving Thalberg at the very least

Tati is already deceased. They don't give posthumous Honorary Oscars.
