A Surreal Masterpiece

Gay fascist coyboys, a burning hot "golden shower" and digging for gold - in the bandit - this film has the lot.

If you want a surreal experience and some memorable images in an intelligent and ultra violent 1960's spaghetti western (in the uncut version) - this film is definatley for you.

However, if you like prefer more simple fare and like your westerns more John Wayne flavour (straight forward and plain) don't bother. There is nothing for you here...

I agree. This film really is one of the best Spaghetti Westerns ever made.

It definately had lots of interesting stuff going on, and was very enjoyable.

I think though they could have played up the gay cowboy thing a bit more, for most of the movie I wan't sure if they were actually supposed to be gay, or if they just came off that way.

They were. They raped that blonde kid. At least, it seems so.

God, this movie was... weird.

The only character I felt sorry for was the parrot. He was an individual! :D

It's good enough but I don't see anything surreal in it.

Nobody in their right mind would rather watch a John Wayne western.

Agreed. This film was quite brutal and baroque. Rough stuff for sure, but undeniably effective and arresting just the same.

Just got the DVD of this film and I liked it, since I just recently got into spaghetti westerns, and read about how weird and crazy this one was, so I got it, and yeah, it's violent, weird, and does come off kind of like a horror movie at times because of the sometimes dark atmosphere and the great score, which I really liked. The cast was really good, and then up-and-coming genre star Tomas Milian (who played the intriguing main character/stranger dude) looked surprisingly quite smoking hot for a change as the lead, and even showing some skin during the torture sequence (he usually played ugly, grungy-looking psycho thugs in polizioteschi (Italian crime action film) flicks. Another plus about the film was the fact that the only two female characters weren't made to strip or do sex scenes for once---now that was really different, especially from that era! Great looking film, too. It's definitely an exploitative but entertaining and sometimes thoughtful action drama with some interestingly edited montage flashback sequences for the time. Aside from the gory scenes, which I tried not to watch, I pretty much enjoyed it, but I like old-school films anyway.
