The Music Got Recycled

Yes, it's a weird picture, but I can watch anything from the 60s. I've enjoyed the "Magic Christian" and "Arnold's Wrecking Crew" (maybe that was the 70s).

That said, what struck me the most was the theme. When I heard it in this movie I was sure I had heard it before, and sure enough, 3 years later an instrumental version of Hefti's theme can be heard in Elaine May's masterpiece; "A New Leaf".

If you have seen "Oh Dad", get "A New Leaf" and enjoy it on its own merits, but listen in after the wedding scene when Matthau and May go off on their honeymoon, you'll hear the "Poor Dad" theme while they are riding the golf carts.

you can also hear a snippet of the seduction theme in neil simon's last of the red hot lovers, the scene where alan arkin puts on the soft music and sprays the cologne in his mouth and smells his fingers--i realized that hefti also did the soundtrack music to that film as well--

You can also hear ODPD music on the TV show The Odd Couple, which makes perfect sense because Hefti wrote the theme song. I wish I could remember what episode(s)...

It's fun to write a response to this 3 yrs later!

Perhaps the use of Hefti's theme in "Leaf" was a funny nod to "Oh Dad"? Madame Rosepettle and her golf cart drawing a similar image to May and Matthau in theirs?

That's an interesting connection. I haven't seen "Oh Dad" in at least 20 years and didn't even recall a golf cart sequence.

Wow, and I've been sitting here for three years waiting for someone to reply! LOL

LOL! What a speedy reply to my reply! Rosalind Russell rides out of her jet in what I think is actually a jeep of some kind.
