Based on fact?

Is there any evidence that the story here (I mean the part about a Nazi general being involved in serial sex crimes) is in any way based on fact or anedcote?

I wonder partly because of the strange writing credit. We have a novel as the source but also this: "Based on an incident written by James Hadley Chase." What incident? Or does "incident" here just mean "notion."

Curious.

Chase was the pen name of a famous writer who wrote a lot of books. One was called The Wary Transgressor in 1952. The part about a fanatical German general was used by another author and turned into this movie. Chase threatened a lawsuit and they apologized and Columbia Pictures issued him a film credit that the movie was based on one of his books. He had been a British squadron leader in WWII. He wrote mystery novels but started using pen names to break out of being stereotyped.

His real name was Rene Lodge Brabazon Raymond.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

The incident is "The Night of the Generals" on 20 July 1944 or "Operation Valkyrie" if you prefer.
I include the authors note from the film tie in paperback book dated 1969.

"This book is entirely fiction. The factual material used by the author - documents, letters, sworn depositions, etc - does not alter the fact that any identification with persons living or dead is unintentional. Similarly, all names, ranks and military dispositions are fictitious.
An exception to this is the information which relates directly to persons connected with the events of July 20th 1944.
Here the author has done his utmost to remain faithful to historical truth, even down to details of date, place and time.
Ample source-material for this section was available in the form of newspapers, periodicals and book, mostly German but also foreign, and especially the following works: Craig, Die preussiche-deutsche Armee ; Archiv Peter, Spiegelbild einer Verschworung; von Schramm, Der 20. Juli in Paris.
In particular, the author wishes to thank the English writer James Hadley Chase for making available important source-material.”
