Things I'm curious about

If there are any danes or others out there who have seen this old danish movie, I would like to talk about theese strange details in Martha.
Martha's crew's usual diet is very luxurious, but then the ship's owner comes on board and wants them to follow regulations. This means for example having oatmeal (havregrød in danish) for breakfast. I am curious about, why the cook has oatmeal on board, with their usual food in mind.
Another detail is this: When Mr. Watson jumps overboard, the crew acts quickly and launches a lifeboat, which unfortunately sinks. However, earlier when O.P. Andersons daugther and Knud jump in the water, swim and fall in love, it is apparently no problem getting them back on board.

Well as to the Oatmeal, oat is used in a lot of dishes. And as for when the two jumps overboard they have no problems swimming back to the ship, the crew has to assume that Mr. Watson is not able to swim back(He did jump overboard right).

Yes, that is most likely correct.

In regards to the oatmeal on board; personally I put it in Danish meatballs (frikadeller), so that could be one reason.. or they could simply have it in case someone got sick, and maybe needed to have some? Or a very simple answer; they acquired it, when the owner of the ship tells them to follow regulations ;)
The other thing; well, the others WANT them to bond and get together, so why should they "ruin the moment" by making a full blown rescue mission - plus the girl jumps in herself to begin with, so obviously she can swim. Watson "tries to kill himself" (term applied loosely, as it seems more like he just wants attention =P), so obviously that would cause them to go "all out" on the rescue mission.
