Cookie's take on the crime

There is one thing I don't get: at first he keeps saying (rightfully) that Julie Kohler isn't his teacher (even though she passes as if she is). When the crime is being investigated and they make questions to Cookie, he says it was his teacher and even when they bring her to his home he says as if it was her, although he seems to be talking about Julie.

«I was on the fire escape! I saw ya!»

I think he was just failing to point out that the "Miss Becker" who visited his house the day before was not Miss Becker, the teacher.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

Yes, but in the beginning he clearly pointed out that she wasn't his teacher - and even when she put her glasses on, he still said it wasn't her. He knew it wasn't her. How come he suddenly failed to point out who was the real and the fake Miss Becker?

I don't think he says that "Miss Becker" (Julie Kohler) is his teacher, Miss Becker, during the questioning... so he still 'knew'. He just failed to point out there were two "Miss Beckers" and the one who visited was NOT his teacher. That was my take on it, at least.

There is another thing I don't get. During the questioning, Cookie didn't cry or even show any signs of having been affected by his father's death. Didn't they tell him that his father died or what?

Cookie had brain damage
