The 'sound effects' must have been alot funnier in the '60s

I assume the whole "ZAP" "SHRIEK" "GROAN" sound effect balloons thru out this movie were "inspired" by the then very popular "Batman" tv series which used the same gag (more or less)....notice that Drac even mentions that he was the original bat man.

I think the humor has lost alot of it's funniness over time (if it ever was really ever all that funny). Luckily they let the gag kind of die off half way thru the film.

Maybe the "balloons" wouldn't be annoying if they weren't accompanied by some often odd voice actually uttering the sound the effect in an unconvincing tone.
