March release date

I see that Mad Monster Party? was originally released in March, at least here in the U.S. That's an odd time of year to release a monster-themed children's movie. I know movie marketing and such wasn't quite as sophisticated back then, but the synergy of an October release date seems to be a no-brainer.

Well, "Miracle on 34th Street", about Santa Claus, was released in May!

What?!?! No kidding. Huh. Different times, I guess.

Could be "Mad Monster Party" wasn't quite ready for release by Halloween, 1966, & rather than waiting til next October, the studio execs thought, "Why wait til Halloween? Kids love monsters year round!"

reply

Yeah, that could be, and if so, they were right. I think kids are probably less concerned about things like time of year than adults are. October? Cool, bring on the monsters. April? Cool, bring on the monsters.
