shareI thought it was pretty funny. Depends what you'd call a 'comedy' I guess.
Suzuki doesn't really fit into neat little packages like 'comedy' and 'action'.

There are some comedic elements within the film. The antagonist's cheeks are intentionally swollen like a squirrel's is one example.
shareOn the Criterion release of Youth of the Beast there's an interview with the actor who played the leading role in Branded to Kill, and he says that he had plastic surgery done on his cheecks but now he regrets it because it didn't come out like he wanted to or something. But it's classic. SO he looks like that in all movies, it wasn't for comedic effect.

I have yet to see a movie by this director that was not funny at times, though no one genre ever works for any of his movies, he really does make movies that have all kinds of emotions and feelings in them, just like real life.
