Mom LOVED watching Susan boss Kong around...
I caught this wonderfully entertaining film on ME-TV last night (first time in years), and it brought back some very happy memories. Mom and I loved seeing it together, and two scenes in particular stand out:
1. Linda Miller's portrayal of a "Damsel in distress" struck a powerful chord with Mom, i.e. she hugely enjoyed watching Susan boss Kong around! Mom would jokingly say for weeks and weeks, "Put me down, Kong!" until I wanted to scream my head off. Is that female power, or what?
2. Mom happened to work for the United Nations, so she couldn't help noticing how, whenever Rhodes Reason (Commander Nelson) would say, "I'm with the U.N.", the Japanese would all salute him. "Wow, I want to visit Japan myself," Mom said, "they'll all salute me too!" Sorry, Mom, that only happens in Japanese monster movies...
So how 'bout it, ladies? Do you enjoy Linda Miller's feminine "Damsel in distress" style too, and her complete control over her big hunk of ape? Myself, I took huge pleasure seeing Mom laugh her head off - at least until she said, "Put me down, Kong!" once too often...
