Who was Susan supposed to be hooking up with?

Dr. Who and Carl talk about her having the hots for old Jiro, so why is she constantly leaning all over Carl? Carl's just lucky Jiro never chop-saki'd his butt!
Then again, this was released during the summer of love (dig the psychedelic light show when they wanted to hypnotize Kong. I bet you Dr. Who bought that gizmo on Haight street), so maybe after the movie Carl and Jiro and Susan went off to live together on a commune.
Man, I probably shouldn't post at two a.m.

I also wondered about the relationship between those three myself. There was something fishy about it.

It might be that the filmmakers were somewhat uncomfortable with the interracial romance between Miller and Takarada and felt the need to have her defer toward Reason.

They had no problem with Glenn and Namikawa in Godzilla versus Monster Zero.

Wait, she wasn't Japanese she was an alien, wasn't she? Not to mention the fact that they killed off the character... none too subtle message there I think. Sort of like the slasher films where any character that has sex gets killed, only here it's dating an American...

The sixties was the decade of free love. Maybe they shared her.

I think the relationships cooled down once they realized how long it would take for her to get rid of the smell of wet gorilla. She probably spent the next six months washing her hair in tomato juice.

She was obviously in love with Jiro and it doesn't seem like the makers had any problem with 'interracial'(the belief that there is more than one human race is primitive) relationships. I think she just cares about Carl because he is her boss and friend.

Slightly away from the main topic.

Was Jiro even Japanese (obviously Akira Takarada was)? Was he not Japanese-American? He didn't seem to know much about Japan.

Who cares about the Japanese/American thing, what about the girl on monkey scenes? She was really screaming for "KING" Kong there at the end.

reply

It's clearly a Kong and Susan romance. It's so sad when she has to explain to him that it couldn't work out in the end.

Most memorable part of the whole film is those words at the end.

Whatever --- the Hot Japanese girl MIE HAMA was the one I was interested in --- If I was Commander Nelson I would have capitulated and been her Boy toy ---
