Not the same creature in King Kong vs. Godzilla?

Correct. This is a standalone movie that has nothing to do with either the Godzilla or Kong films.

Of course its the same Kong that in years prior, defeated Godzilla. However what puzzles me is in the beginning on the sub, the crew seems to debate whether tis giant ape actually exists
