So bad it's good.

In order to earn the distinction of "so bad it's good", I think a movie needs to be not actually trying to be bad. This movie looks like they were really trying to be good SciFi. The sets were fairly elaborate--there must have a lot of work assembling cheap, obsolete electronic equipment and constructing the sets.

This wasn't David L. Hewitt first directorial effort. And he directed for the same production company before. They must have known his quality potential. They may have known how to make a profit from a movie of this level.

Interesting-your comment about knowing how to make a Z-movie make money. The disappearance of drive-ins greatly reduced the number of these type movies.
