Inspiration for Lone Wolf and Cub?

I know it's a bit of a long shot, but it did occur to me at the end of SAMURAI REBELLION, with Mifune walking away from the village carrying the baby in one arm and his sword in the other, that the image may have sparked the idea for Lone Wolf and Cub in Kazuo Koike's mind back in 1954 ...

Not a big deal, but just something that occurred to me :-)

Funnily enough that was the same thing I thought when I saw that scene.

Samurai Rebellion was released in 1967.

I thought of the same thing! Awesome that others picked up on this. I was thinking how if done right they could have connected the two movies. The title Shogun Assassin would have fit a sequel to this pretty well, but of course I knew better.

There had been a couple Zatoichi movies before '67 that featured Zatoichi on the road with a baby. It seems to be a popular motif in samurai cinema and fiction for whatever reason.
