Would it be rated X today?

It still ncarries an X rating in the USA but I'm wondering--is it THAT explicit? I just heard there was some casual male and female nudity but nothing graphic. Could it get by with an R?

reply

Way too raw for an R, I think this would get an NC-17 today, just like Last Tango In Paris and Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls did when they were resubmitted for classification.

Thanks for the answer. Never saw "Last Tango" but "Beyond" should have been given an R rating. I heard it got an NC-17 for one lesbian sex act which shows nothing but reaction shots!

reply

There is one particularly graphic shot-- when Lena kisses a mans penis and runs her fingers through his pubic hair that would ensure an NC-17 today. There's a few other shots of full frontal nudity (male and female) but nothing is really too terribly explicit.

I've never understood the rating system being so harsh on sexuality. It's a natural thing. Much more natural than watching extreme violence. I don't get it.

reply

No, it’s not a “natural” thing or “more natural."

What exactly is that supposed to mean?

Sex is most certainly a natural thing. You were created because your parents had sex. Animals have sex. Plants have sex! Yes, it is a natural thing and yes, it is a more natural act than violence. The majority of the world population are nonviolent. However, most (thank you artificial insemination) of those people came from two other people doin it!!

Ease down, my friend. Sex is a completely natural thing and almost all of us do it, so if you don't like it, then don't have sex, and don't patrol the boards of explicit movies preaching your ignorant nonsense. Simple as that.

reply

Yes it would be rated X/NC-17. 18 in Norway. 15 in Netherlands.
