Endicott crying

I'm sorry, but why was Endicott crying like a mitch in his greenhouse? It couldnt be because of that little slap Tibbs gave him, Endicott was meant to be one of the most powerful men in the state. What a mitch!

Crying as an old man Southerner - crying in frustration that he can't have Virgil Tibbs shot. As he says, "There WAS a time I could have you shot". It's new times and he can't deal with the loss of power.

Absolutely correct, crying out of frustration.

In general, seniors will tend to exhibit difficulties in adapting to changing times. In the case of Endicott, society was moving forward as exemplified by the civil rights movement. For today's enlightened seniors, they possess the knowledge that the concept of a functioning democracy in this country is merely empty words, they realize our liberties have been chipped away to the point where nobody has any real rights with the exception of the Power Elite which is made up of members of the 1%, that we live in a system of Inverted Totalitarianism which means corporations are in complete control of the body politic and the economy, and finally, climate change is already passed the tipping point which means that civilization as we know it will deconstruct, eventually devolving into something approximating what was portrayed in "The Road Warrior" and "Thunderdome". Accordingly, we pity younger generations and are glad that we experienced the 50's, 60's and 70,s since corporate pitchman Reagan made sure to seal the deal for his own out-of-touch cohorts in the 80's and continuing on to the present.

Racism. Getting slapped by a black man was considered a huge degradation for him
