Arrested?

So was Cramden arrested for sleeping with a strange woman? I don't get it. I was waiting for them to say that she was a prostitute but that never came up. It might cause some media contraversey to-day but if he is a single guy then it's a perfectly normal thing to do, particularly in the swinging sixties.

Even back in the 1960's, a government official caught with someone in an uncompromising position could be viewed as a breach of security, which is why they arrested him, thinking he may have revealed state secrets while in the company of a lady of ill repute, or at least that's the way his enemies made it look.

Keep in mind, the people who came for him were all in on the conspiracy. He wasn't legally arrested. The pretense for taking him away wasn't "breach of security." It was simply scandalous behavior, hence the newspaper headlines...the conspirators wanted to discredit him and remove him from his position of authority so he couldn't get in their way.
