Dick's relationship with his father?

We learn about something abouth Perry's family, father-son relationship, etc. But we have given no idea about Dick's family, his background... Why? How is in the book?

I've read the book a few times, but it's been a really long time since I read it last. If I remember correctly, Dick was sort of spoiled, and wasn't given consequences for doing things wrong. Again...it's been a really long time since I read the book, so I might not be remembering completely accurately.

i recall reading the same thing. dick's mother especially was in denial, blaming the whole thing on perry, even though dick came up with the plan in the first place.

mr. hickock, who was dying of cancer and who would pass away about six months after dick and perry were arrested, also did not think dick was capable of the crime, and thought that dick and perry would get railroaded during the trial because of the high regard for the clutter family.

When the agents talk to Dick's father, the father talks about Dick in terms of "he's always been a nice boy, likes to hunt etc etc."

He didn't know his son that well, didn't know his son was a criminal. The suggestion is that the father was neglectful.
