Rosey Grier's appearance a joke?
As the friendly man driving a Cadillac convertible in the California desert? Supposedly he's supposed to be himself in that? And Dick refuses a ride with he and his friend! Racist!

shareIn the book they were trolling for victims and the novel described the black men as light-heavy weight boxers; which the film does not actually say anything about; Not likely the criminals would take them on.
"It's the system, Lara. People will be different after the Revolution."
although it's possible, i'm not sure dick's refusing to ride with the guys in the cadillac was because they were black, but was more because they were big, tough looking types they couldn't rob.
The guys in the caddy were themselves looking for victims to rob and/or worse. They were unnaturally eager to pick up Dick and Perry and one was positioned in the back seat so as to better handle their victims.
