DVD Please

There are three reasons why Paramount should release a DVD of Hurry Sundown:

Michael Caine, Jane Fonda, and Otto Preminger.

Case closed.

reply

Just Otto Preminger would be reason enough.

reply

The both of you are WRONG!

Since this movie is about race relations, how can you leave out the most
important actors that depict characters that are important to the story of
race relations in this movie?

The three people that you listed, ARE NOT REASON ENOUGH to release this DVD!!!

How about including ROBERT HOOKS, BEAU RICHARDS, REX INGRAM, AND DIAHANN CARROLL, (African-Americans) as the main major reasons for releasing this film on DVD?

Leaving them out of the equasion, is like trying to separate the salt from the stew....it's impossible to do!! (lyric from Lizz Wright, Jazz vocalist)!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!

"OOO...I'M GON' TELL MAMA!"

I guess I didn't think about that before. Thanks for that piece of information.

And less not forget the great performance of John Philip Law (R.I.P.)

Just stay away from raredvdworldwide, as they are a scam.

I DIED IN EPISODE 81!!!

reply

Yes, Beah (not Beau) Richards AND Otto are sufficient reasons, as Otto made it possible for Beah (and other fine actors) to be in the picture at all.

Preminger made considerable efforts to employ African-American actors in significant films, which was a helluva lot more than others were doing in that regard in Hollywood at the time.

Plus, the camerawork of Griggs & Krasner, and the great Montenegro score make this picture LONG OVERDUE for DVD treatment.

reply

Also, it is, in my opinion, a wonderful movie, and I love it!

(And, yes, the Hugo Montenegro score is unforgettable.)

The scathing reviews and politicaly incorrect approach to this camp classic would require a second DVD alone.

reply

I wonder: Does this film really qualify as camp? It's not a good movie by any means, considering the talent involved, but I find it more bland than campy. I wish I found it campy because watching it is very slow going.

Get fracking real, this movie's a big POS, and deserves obscurity. I can think of a better Preminger one to release (hell, the only good one from this period), and that one is Tell Me You Love Me, Junie Moon. I wonder why Olive Films didn't include it in their mega-opus Preminger box set?

reply

I’m sure it is now.
