I have just seen this movie. I liked very much the last part, when the gardener has to leave and the children follow him.
He mentions an Indian legend about a family whose members never say goodbye when they leave. Does this legend really exist?

I really don't know but I would love to know where and how you came to see this movie. I have been trying to find a copy of it for years! Do you, by any chance, have access to a copy of it? I don't care how bad the quality is.
