Yearly tradition

When I was a kid it was a yearly tradition to watch the movie The Ten Commandments at Passover/Easter time. They showed it on television. It was also a tradition to watch The Wizard of Oz each year on television, I'm not sure why.

I believe people wouldn't buy many DVDs if they didn't think they would want to watch them again after a year or two, if they didn't think they were that good and timeless.

I think How I Won War the War is that good. I like to watch it again after a year or so.

I was sorely disappointed with Lennon's performance, but many others are not.

I don't believe anyone but Michael Crawford could mix the seriousness of war and British humor as done in that movie. The mix of levity and seriousness is awkward in the extreme, but it somehow fits the theme.

There are several movie discussion boards that I think should be more active, even though the movies have long gone to DVD. This is one.

I watched the film for the first time. I was disappointed with John Lennon too. Michael Crawford reminded me at points of Richard E Grant in Withnail & I; it was the voice.

It was disconcerting. Sometimes it made the moment more poignant, other times it jarred and irritated.
I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.
