Dana's 'Accent'

Anyone ever notice the way he pronounced the word "police"(poleece) at the gas station fixing his tire? And the way he said "animals"(aneemals) playing catch after Gloria throws the can at them? Foreign accent or bad dialogue director? And his makeup?! He wears mascara, a little lipstick and lots of face powder. To hide years and traces of alcohol abuse?

You're just listing more reasons that this film is a true classic!! Dana Andrews looks like a 60 year old Pee Wee Herman in this film. Peg sure is hot though.

Great comments! I can't stop laughing! You missed one-in the motel room when Peg asks him what time it is (after the broken bottle wakes them up) Tom says disgustedly "It's a quatter to one". Not a quarter to one-"a quatter to one". Wow! Dana was so glib and smooth in films like "Fallen Angel".It had to be the alcoholism.

Dana eventually did get over his alcoholism. I think this was made during the height of his problem. He was a better actor than you'd think after watching this.

I guess this would be around the same time he worked on The Dirty Dozen.
