Favorite scenes

1. The artist stranded after the ladder falls - the situation of THE ARTIST in THE
STATE.
2. The "national" treasury slowly being stolen away.
3. The boring rendition of a Beatles song by the regional orchestra.
4. The old men and the girl who brought a bathing suit.
5. Most of all, as I mentioned before, the old man's look when he sees the empty box... He KNOWS it couldn't have been otherwise.

It must have been exiting to be in Prague then, for that short time, when things were opening up, and there really seemed that there might just be an alternative to American-style Capitalism and Stalinist-style Communism. That is, until the Soviet tanks put an end to that.

The woman's dress leaking those pearl-looking things, what were they?

The artist hanging after the ladder falls.

The men trying to push the stuck fire engine.

The inprovised bar begin set up outside of the burning house.

Great movie.

Virtually every scene is classic farce. Forman presented a straightforward event and extracted the maximum from it. That is the sign of a genius at work. What a legacy he will leave with this, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and Amadeus.

As far as I am concerned this is a definite 10/10 film. I'll forgive anyone who gave it an 8 or 9 but anyone who gave it less knows absolutely nothing about farce and clearly have no sense of humour.

It's the pearls from her necklace that became undone.

My favourite scene: at the end when even the ceremonial fire axe had been stolen. Kinda summed it all up. I must admit, I did not expect that

I loved beauty pageant, when none of the contestants would come on stage and tried to hide. I thought it was hilarious how all the men were dragging/carrying the girls on stage, and finally the old woman standing on stage wearing the crown.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubblegum.

It's been ages since I saw this movie, but that's the scene that sticks out most to me. I also loved the very ending where the other guy climbs into the bed. Too funny!

The waiter who was trying to settle people's bills as folks were rushing out the door to the fire was pretty darn funny. Then he popped up again at the scene of the fire itself, and was funny again.

Hearing From Me To You done as a waltz was...interesting. I'm going to stick with the original arrangement.

When the old man's house was burning and the woman stood in his line of vision so he couldn't see it, someone says "turn the chair around you idiot". Someone else complains "he keeps turning around to look" another says "we'll, it's his house that's burning". Then he gets cold so they move him closer to his burning house to keep warm.

It's been years since I saw that movie, but I still smile when I think about it. I just put a hold on the DVD at my local library. Can't wait to pick it up.
