Help! I caught only the last 57 minutes. Please explain some things

Apparently Fox killed Mrs. Sheridan. Is that correct? And his estate inherited her estate. Is that correct? If so, that would seem illegal, because a murderer is not allowed to profit from his crime.

And then Sarah Watkins got everything because she was apparently Fox's common law wife? Is that correct?

Can someone please correct the above if it's wrong, and fill me in on the key plot elements I missed? Thanks.

Fox killed his common law wife to make it look like she accidentally overdosed.

Sarah got everything because she convinced William McFly and Inspector Rizzi to allow her to sign Fox's will as the beneficiary to his estate. You are probably correct on the legalities but the law might differ in Italy.

I checked. Italian law is similar to U.S. law: any estate would be held in trust for the descendents of the murderer, if any exist, but the murderer himself would not be able to collect.
