the hill climb with bikes scene

anyone notice the scene where they try and ride up the hill is spliced with footage of an amateur dirtbike contest? haha. they are obviously not on harley's, and there is a guy holding onto a yellow rope who grabs them if they fall. it just cuts from tilted angle shots of this, to tilted shots of the gang laughing their asses off, and where they are supposed to be i don't know.

just thought it was funny.

The sequence was shot at a real hill climb in Bakersfield on an off day. I think it was an after thought. The stunt biker, Tex Hill, did try climbing the hill as we watched from the bottom. He took 3 or 4 tries at it on his Sportster but never made it. We thought it was funnier than crap. As we watched, there was a camera on us. We thought that was gonna be it but they edited in the extra crap. When we saw the movie, we tought it really sucked.

The impression I got is that the guy tried to climb the hill, and then they went on to the dirtbike climb contest, which is advertised in the earlier scene. I didn't think they were trying to fool anyone, just that they went to watch the contest and were enjoying themselves.

Zando777,
You are right in your assumption. When we shot this, there was no one at the hill climb, except us. But we weren't told anything at the hill climb except to watch "Tex" climb the hill on his Sportster, and they filmed us as we watched Tex. We didn't know why they were shooting us watching Tex, but we did it, anyway. When we saw the finished film, we were pissed, because outlaw bikers don't go to the hill climbs, or church socials. We felt used.
