X rating?

Can anyone explain to me why this film got an X rating back in 1977? I saw it and it barely warrants an R rating!

I assume you meant 1967. An X-rating meant something different back then. Midnight Cowboy with Dustin Hoffman also got an X in 1969. I can only guess it was because of the violence and the drug use. Also for the loose women and the lack of concern for murder that the characters had. Pretty tame by today's standards but, like I said, rated X didn't mean the same thing it does today.
