One of the most important films ever made.

For all the obvious reasons plus the pure magic of seeing three incredible actors at the height of their careers. Well for Sidney anyway. As you can see the older gent is my favorite actor.

I totally agree spencerthetracy  . I'm watching this film right now ( again ) on the channel TCM ( Turner Classic Movies ) . This is actually my second favorite Sydney Poitier film also . Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn were absolutely wonderful in this film too   .
Thanks so much spencerthetracy for your subject post  .

I was watching too.

Of all the Tracy/Hepburn movies this was my favorite.

All the ones in the 40's and 50's, black and white were at the pinnacle of their youth and creativity. To see them, esp Spencer in the twilights of their careers is a special treat. Spencer's speech about love and the sanctity of marriage is purely magic. To see Katherine's tears make me tear up too.

I agree spencerthetracy and for all the very same points you wrote here too  .

I felt the exact same way you did when I watched that scene for the very first time a couple of years ago and also late last night as well ( a definite heartfelt emotional moment there ) . Quite a wonderful speech indeed and it's so nice to have seen these legendary actors perform in these movies ( as you put it so perfectly here ) " in the twilights of their careers "  . These are the films that stay with us fans always  .

Thank goodness for TCM the channel that captures these classics the way it should be unedited and commercial-free  .
