I dated a cougar.

She was a really close friend of mine, twice my age. She was my first. I can relate to a number of things in this movie, although thankfully, it never got that chaotic.

I guess I'm in the opposite camp: me being with a cougar inspired me to watch this movie.

Never use that term! It is so disrespectful to women! What do you call an older man who targets younger women? I think Lizard would be appropriate (as an animal with scaly, wrinkled skin that stalks other creatures. I give that as an example of why the term 'cougar' is so repellent and is typical that there is a term created about women but not about men.

This positively infantile preoccupation with bosoms!Terry-Thomas about US 1963.Hasnt changed much!

1) There is a reference in one of the IMDb Trivia posts about "the tender trap," not the movie by that name, but the concept. Women who are smart enough and have the desire can often manipulate a man by using his desires against him.

2) A partner in a relationship who has a decade of experience over the other partner has an enormous advantage. An unscrupulous woman (or man) can use that to advantage.

3) Cougar is not disrespectful to women. Maybe it is disrespectful to you. It certainly would be if you announced your objection to it and others used it to refer to you, anyway. If you have never been in a relationship with a man, or woman a generation younger than you, then what is your justification for having an opinion. If you have been, maybe you should ask your partner their how they would categorize you.

4) The term 'lounge lizard' is not in frequent use anymore. It was in the 1970's and 1980's and probably reached its peak of popularity during the "Disco Era."

5) You are the only woman I have ever heard (seen) object to the use of the term "Cougar."

Cougar is an insulting term. The animal the cougar is secretive , solitary and comes out at night to attack, kill, devour young deer and other animals. All of which suggests that if you call a woman that, you imply that she isn't socially normal in human terms, that she has an inbuilt animalistic programming, all merely because she either particularly likes younger men or feels that she may be beneficial to the sexual / emotional and/or intellectual life of a younger man. Cougar also implies that very willing, legal age, young males are prey rather than people with a tongue in their head to choose yes or no. Still, the most obscene term of all is the crude, cynical and needlessly paedophilic sounding 'sugar daddy'. What's wrong with 'financially healthy older man'?

Hello Debbie Downer! You have inferred all that nonsense; it wasn't implied. Cougars (the animal) are beautiful, graceful, intelligent, strong, powerful, svelte. Not many cougars (the animal) are looking to have sex with newly minted college graduates.
