Gyaos the Masochist

Anyone else notice how Gyaos apparently deliberately knocked the stalactite onto his hurt foot? Before this he also kicks a bunch of rocks with the injured foot. Why would he do that? Afterwards, he slowly closes his eyes in apparent pleasure rather than crying out. It would add an interesting new dimension to him if he did in fact enjoy pain.
