Who is Mrs. Mudge in Fitzwilly?

August 26, 2006
Who plays the fancy blond hairdo, heavyset (fat) lady, wearing a white fur coat, referred to repeatedly in the movie as "Mrs. Mudge" ??
Her only screen appearance is at the front door of Miss Vickie's house arriving to tell Fitzwilly that she is famished.
But, she is mentioned by her name, Mrs. Mudge several times by different characters in Fitzwilly.
I guess since her on screen line was made up of less than five words she received no screen credit.
But her outlandish appearance has me wondering what actress played her!!

Barbara Morrison. She also played one of the witches council on Bewitched, and there was an episode of Brady Bunch where the family was in the school talent contest and Morrison was the emcee - after every act, she'd say "Wasn't that a delight?" no matter how good or bad, but her delivery will have that line in your head from then on.

This was just on TCM today. I got my copy and have transferred it to DVD. What a great movie. Dick Van Dyke was excellent!

I just checked today and saw your reply about Barbara Morrison playing the character of Mrs. Mudge.
I am glad that IMDB has now added Barbara Morrison to the uncredited cast list for playing this funny character.
I thought "Mrs. Mudge" looked familiar. Since you mentioned it, I do remember now seeing her in a couple of episodes of Bewitched.

Strange how movies back then did not give credit to everyone appearing in a movie, whereas today, credits can run forever at the end of a movie giving credit to everything. I guess tougher Screen Actor Guild requirements(?).

Fitzwilly is a great movie, hopefully someday it will be available widescreen on DVD.

I think it has to do with your role. If you are an extra (non-speaking role or in a crowd) you may or may not get listed. Once you speak a line, you must be listed (even if not named in the movie - ie: You get listed as Cop #3).
