"....Or, Pardon Me, but Your Teeth are in My Neck" question.

Were these (totally unnecessary) words really a part of this film's title? Perhaps in original release, or only in certain markets? The extra-long title isn't on the current North American DVD, nor was it on the previous video version. It's on an original poster, but nowhere else. What gives? In any case, the long title is ridiculous.

This was probably a throwback to the long title of Dr. Strangelove, added by the US distributor in order to market it as a wacky comedy. I agree with you that it's totally inappropriate, and it was done without Polanski's involvement.

I once watched an old VHS copy of this film which had this title. As I recall it was written in really small, cluttered letters and moved at a slightly different speed than the rest of the credits! It really seemed to have been added in a hurry, and I can't understand why they even bothered. Otherwise the credit sequence seemed identical to the one used on the DVD.
