German r2 dvd details

Although this does seem to be the most complete version I think it`s worth pointing out that the overall picture quality is pretty awful. The picture may be 1.66:1 widescreen but it`s full of scratches & speckles & certainly far inferior to the uk r2 prism release.

Curiously a short scene with Christopher Plummer on the training field with Remy Schneider will only play with German dialogue(approx 2 mins)then it reverts back to English.I don`t know if this is a fault on the dvd or the English audio has been lost.It does have extra scenes, including a short one with Gordon Jackson, but one which is definitely missing (present on the r2 uk Prism) is Gert Frobe`s last piece of dialogue when he asks if Eddie Chapman really is a spy just before he boards the plane at the end.

Maybe a fully restored version will improve the film to a degree but the main problem is terminal:sloppy direction & the usually reliable Plummer wrecks the film with a totally unbelievable & disastrous performance.Fine story which deserves to be remade.
