Senior Service cigarette packet.

What was the point of the British cigarette packet the German officer was holding? (Plummer/Eddie Chapman's eyes are fixed on it for a while.) I thought that it might show the German to be a double agent/spy later on in the film, but this didn't happen.

SPOILERS

Chapman had written on the flap the code numbers of the German agents. He had copied them in the radio room during the chaos after blowing up the tree. If the German had seen the numbers it would have exposed Chapman.

Why would have having the code numbers of Agents he would have to contact when he arrived in the UK expose him?
Logically if the lies told by the Real Eddie were true(few were) then he would have been given the list to memorise any way.
In truth the Germans Used British Cigarettes as a demoralizing Tool
The Cigarettes usually were from Supply drops to troops after D Day that had fallen behind German lines.
Precious space was wasted in supply containers by filling any gapes with cigarettes and other non-war like goodies.
Another thing that became popular with the Germans was British Chocolate.
Which was also both used as a tool and also stolen by them for personal use.
This backfired as when produced during Prison of war interrogations along with the British Cigarettes was assumed by British P.O.W.'S to have been stolen from Red Cross Parcels .

he wouldn't have been expected to contact other German agents in Britain, certainly not unless directed to them by his German controllers. It was established earlier during the training sequence that he didn't need to see the frequencies of the other agents so if he was caught with those on him he would have been in big trouble
