It's Sharon's voice. I remember reading that she felt really uncomfortable because she had a dialect coach to make her voice sound deeper and add a bit of an English accent - so that's probably the difference you're hearing.

Are you sure?

In fact, I just ended up throwing up a couple of comments on Sharon Tate's IMDB page, when all I'd intended was to come here to ask about her voice in "Eye." On the one hand, it sounds absolutely nothing like her. On the other, I've never seen mention anywhere that her voice was dubbed.

If it wasn't dubbed, that would mean Tate was a far better actress than I ever realized.

The trivia section here on IMDb says: "Sharon Tate's voice is dubbed."

Take it with a grain of salt. That WAS clearly Sharon's voice in the film. Watch the documentary All Eyes on Sharon Tate, and you'll see it for yourself. Sharon took constant voice-over training for this film.

The claim that her voice was dubbed in this film makes about as much sense as the claim that her voice in her final film 12 + 1 was dubbed by other people in some scenes, because of her death during post-production.

Her voice was dubbed, but it was her voice. She just worked on it and they dubbed her best takes over the film... it is her voice though.

Wow, what a bunch of "experts". Every word of every line was dubbed by another actress. Have you people never seen Valley of the Dolls? Lord, it gets thick in here.

Her deep voice is apparently her own and not an overdub. Producer Martin Ransohoff arranged for the film's publicity featurette to be All Eyes on Sharon Tate.

What does Valley of the Dolls have to do with this, other than Sharon being in it. She wasn't talking in a British accent there.

You are correct, Kittysafe.

Because her natural speaking voice was so different from her character's in this film, many others have asked the "was-her-voice-dubbed-by-another?" question since this film was first released in '66, but it was indeed Sharon's voice. As another at this thread pointed out, it's called acting, plus it certainly helped to have a good dialect coach. This was Sharon's first important role and she was eager to do her very best, different voice and all. Since so many still think it was another's voice 47 years later, I would say that she succeeded.

And it's called jealousy, actually envy or taking pleasure in cutting one's betters down to size at every opportunity. People are so envious of Sharon's incredible beauty that they are not willing to give her props as the good actress she was. I can't imagine Marilyn Monroe or Jayne Mansfield doing half as good of a British accent or being as spooky as Sharon was in this film. Sharon and David Hemmings were perfect for their parts and this film is totally underrated in every way possible, in the horror genre, as well as cinematically.
