yep--he says that--I think it must be a southern expression--I heard my grandfather use that term years ago

"Suck-egg mule." Picture it. Big ol' horsey lips slurping up an egg. Not a particularly positive image. I can see it meaning something like "Well, I'll be an old codger who is both stubborn and without teeth."
