Why Japan?

According to this web site, El Dorado debuted in Japan in December 1966, six months before it premiered in America in June 1967. Why?

good question.......i'm sure the asians didn't take too kindly to mississippi's imitation.

Yeah ... at least they didn't open the film in China!

Apparently, director Howard Hawks kept tinkering with the editing long after the film was finished (filming completed in February of 1966).
