I just noticed something in the scene right after Joey shoots Cole. He sweeps her feet out from underneath her and as she falls her butt is wet even though she hasn't hit the water yet. When she does fall, she doesn't really land in the water, but as she gets up, her butt is obviously wet. When she leaves and bends down from her horse to get the rifle, her butt is completely dry.
Either way, it's a great butt.

Any cut where you can't see Michelle's face in that desert-pool scene is a good candidate for the stunt double. I have looked. :-)
Seems like a logical explanation, but I can't find any listing for any stunt people on the IMDB listing or in the credits for the movie. Also, in a continuous shot after she picks up the rifle, you do see her face, and if it's a double, it's a pretty good match. You may be right, but I'm not sure I'm convinced.

According to Michele Carey, her stunt double was the legendary Polly Burson. It was Polly who did the stunt of retrieving the rifle from the river. Michele was and still is at age 72, a very good horse rider. In fact, both John Wayne and Robert Mitchum commended her on her riding abilities. Now, James Caan, another story. This was discovered in Polly Burson's personal diaries.

Mrs. Holt had a very very short and limited film carrier. Her other big stand out role was in " Man's Favorite Sport" with Rock Hudson, in which she was under personal contract with Mr. Hudson.
She did have some TV credits, but as far as movies goes, El Dorado is were she had more screen time than all her other movie parts put together.
Michele Carey didn't do much better, but she did have a few movie that stood out, such as "Live a Little, Love a Little" with Elvis,and "Dirty Dingus Magee" with Old Blue eyes.
