I've seen this one dozens of times and just noticed that Joey shot Cole in the back....while he was riding towards her...

I'm not nitpicking. There's no such thing as a film without mistakes. I just thought this one was funny.

That's not necessarily a mistake in the movie. The bullet passed through his abdomen from the front and lodged near his spine.

Yes, exactly! You can see blood on his abdomen after the shooting near the creek.🐭

There's no blood on his abdomen. When Joey goes down to see if Cole is dead, he knocks Joey down. When he gets up, you clearly see that there's no blood. When Joey says that she "can't believe she missed", Cole moves his hand off the left side of his back and says "you didn't miss" and then wipes his left hand on her shirt. So yeah, magic bullet.
