John Gabriel and Robert Mitchum

Actor John Gabriel as "Pedro," isn't from Mexico, of course. He's from Niagara Falls, New York.

Gabriel and Mitchum teamed up in an earlier movie, "The Hunters." Gabriel was "Corona," Mitchum's wingman, flying F-86s in Korea. A terrific flying movie and Gabriel's part in it is significant and well played.

I think it's amazing that Gabriel wrote the lyrics for the movie theme song "El Dorado."

Thanks for reading my comments.

Other John Gabriel facts. He played character Seneca on long running soap RYAN'S HOPE, for practically the entire duration.

Also, he was The Professor in the orginal Gilligan's Island pilot.

Some other trivia in the John Gabriel vein..............

Robert Mitchum's older brother John plays the bartender who, in one of the more spectacular special effects ever seen in a western, has a rifle bullet fired by his brother send huge splinters of bar wood into his hand.

Also, Olaf Wieghorst, the artist who does all the fantastic paintings for the beginning and ending credits also plays the gunsmith Swede who sells Mississipi his sawed off shotgun!
