Arthur Hunnicutt

If it was up to me to decide who was the film's best actor, I would say Arthur Hunnicutt. In my opinion he stole every scene he was in. Without him, I don't think I would have enjoyed this film half as much as I did. If ever there was a perfect 'sidekick,' Arthur Hunnicutt would get my vote.

100% agree. Bull makes the film.

100% agree too and thanks for saying so. I love Hunnicutt. I feel sorry he didn't get too many great lines, but he had a few. Hawks thought he was the best actor he had for Big Sky (see McCarthy's book about HH).

He was big, no doubt.

But the film could still be strong w/o him.

I prefer Christopher George by a narrow margin.

I'd never chose a best actor for this movie. They ALL were perfectly cast in my opinion. But I do love the character "Bull". I love the line where John Wayne is introducing him and hasn't finished telling Bull's role and what his is when Bull interrupts and says "Indian Fighter"!

I've always like Arthur Hunnicutt in anything he's in. One in particular that stands out was his appearance in The Twilight Zone.

He was superb in a Perry Mason episode in which he was the owner of an orange grove that wasn't willing to sell out to a (basically) mall developer; he was also a medal of honor winner in the Spanish-American War with a secret involved.

I've always liked him too. The Twilight Zone episode was called The Hunt and was about a backwoodsman and his hound dog who entered the TZ while going on a coon hunt one night. My fondest memories of him were his portrayal in two episodes of Bonanza of a prospector name Obie who has a very lethargic but very intelligent dog named Walter. He was a great character actor and always played a nice guy.
