i've never been so suprised by a 'the end' sign before. (abrupt ending)

my goodness, where do these movies come from? i tell you one thing, i've never been so suprised by an abrupt ending as this movie.

what i put on today,
was reality yesterday,
what i now play as a joke,
was once torture to my soul,
and i better play it smooth,
not to get caught up in the same situation,
that i learned from when i was in my youth.

damn...they just said you will continue your journey and a surprise awaits you beyond the universe.

end.

wtf?!?!?!

I vaguely recall reading something to the effect that Bobby Van became so angry about some aspect of the production that he walked off, and if true then it could account for the abrupt ending (or at least contributed to it)

reply

The producers ran out of money in '67 and then the ending was shot several years later with a different director. A notable movie for that reason in addition to a crazy character, cute affectionate women, swarmy special affects, and a choice of China over Russia as the bad guys.

A lot of old movies have very abrupt endings. Especially the low budget ones-.

I can imagine the discussion between the producer, writer and director: "We ran out of film and money, but at least with this Soviet spaceship footage we bought from another movie, it's 90 minutes. Write something that wraps this turkey up in :30 seconds and we'll all go to lunch. Denny's anyone?"

reply

The "voice" said the other ship (the original ship with the 3 crew members) no longer exists. Did the aliens destroy it or was it sent beyond the universe?
