Actually............
The aircraft graveyard - considering where the majority of the film was shot in Arizona - was probably either Davis-Monthan AFB, or, there was a emergency landing field for either Luke AFB or Williams AFB near Phoenix, that had many former USAF aircraft in storage. I'm actually guessing that it was one of these, as D-M was an active SAC "Double Punch" base at the time of filming (they housed both B-52's, and Titan II ICBM's), and base access was probably nil, while the old emergency landing fields were, for the most part, abandoned after WW-II, and were pretty much public access - some continued to be used as civilian airports for some time. The area between Phoenix, Tuscon, and heading towards Gila Bend and Casa Grande, is literally swarming with these old airfields! (it's amazing what you can see on Google Earth...)
As for the San Pedro filming - yes - Pacific Avenue, and, I think, Bluff Street - the entrance to Cabrillo Beach, is where the accident scene was filmed, and that area pretty much looks exactly the same today. (well, last time I was there, was about 10 years ago, but it was still the same then...)
I think Roger Corman liked filming in Arizona: he did another biker film with jack Nicholson, which was supposed to center in a beach town...that town is actually Chloride, Arizona...about as far removed from a beach as you can get!
