Yes, she was modeled on Ann Smiley, the round heeled wife of George Smiley. Question, Harriet Andersson sounds dubbed in. Was that her voice or was she dubbed?

I've only seen and heard Harriet Andersson in Swedish films before, so I'm not sure about her voice. But I think she was darn sexy here.

I believe that the film inferred... that he loved and cared for her deeply.
But couldn't satisfy her sexually. Due to the 'largish' age gap between them.
So that she was 'forced' to find 'physical love' elsewhere.

It angered him, but he was more afraid of her falling in love with someone,
and therefore losing her completely.
